Beat the Smoke this Summer with an Air Purifier from ESI Alaska

Ahhh… summertime in Alaska. Long days, lots of sun, and… wildfire season. We know, not the best thing about summer in Alaska, but unfortunately, a reality. Especially with the early snow melt this year, wildfire season in 2025 might come earlier and be more aggressive than in other years.

There are ways to mitigate the side effects of wildfire smoke — stay inside, close windows and doors, wear a N95 mask when going outside — but one of the best ways to keep the air you and your loved ones breathe clean is with an air purifier.

Who is Austin Air?

Austin Air has been around for more than 30 years, and they’re the originator of engineering and manufacturing high-end filtration systems. Their units use a combo of True Medical HEPA and Activated Carbon to specifically target particulate contamination and chemical toxicity. Austin Air purifiers are sold in more than 100 countries and they maintain the largest air cleaner manufacturing facility in the world, at 480,000 square feet. The company is proud to assemble everything in-house in Buffalo, New York.

What’s special about Them?

First and foremost, Austin Air is the only clinically-proven manufacturer of medical-grade HEPA air purifiers. The Medical Grade HEPA used in all Austin Air filters has been independently certified to remove 99.97% of particles, including vapor, gas, and sub-micron particles. Additionally, the EPA determines that the most-effective air purifiers are those that use a combination of both HEPA and Carbon.  Austin Air uses up to 15lbs of carbon and 60 sq ft of HEPA in its filters – more than anyone in the industry.

Austin Air Systems also builds its machines with solid steel and nontoxic powder-coated paint, whereas nearly all other air purifiers on the market build their machines with a plastic frame, and they are painted. This often puts more harmful contaminants into the air. What’s more, the Austin purifiers do not produce off-gassing or harmful ozone.

Austin Air for Wildfire Smoke in Alaska

This means that if you’re looking for an air purifier to combat wildfire smoke this summer, then you need to take a look at our Austin Air purifiers in stock at ESI Alaska. We proudly carry three variations of Austin Air’s HealthMate air purifier: the standard HealthMate, HealthMate Plus, and the HealthMate Junior, so you’re set to start breathing clean air no matter the space — bedroom, office, nursery…you name it.

Healthmate Standard and Plus Models

Both the Austin Air HealthMate and HealthMate Plus use a combination of activated carbon, zeolite, and medical grade HEPA in their filters — 60 square feet of true medical grade HEPA and up to 15 lbs. of the activated carbon and zeolite blend, to be exact. They are also both the same size, at 23 inches tall, 14 inches wide, and weighing 47 lbs.

The big difference between the standard and Plus, however, is in the activated carbon. The HealthMate Plus uses an activated carbon that is impregnated with potassium iodide, which is designed for better adsorption of specific chemicals such as formaldehyde.  Therefore, the HealthMate Plus may be a better option for those exposed to wildfire smoke or chemical disasters.

Healthmate Junior

The HealthMate Junior air purifiers have 30 sq. ft. of true medical grade HEPA and over 6.5 lbs. of the activated carbon and zeolite blend. Although the Junior has 4 stages of filtration like the other Austin Air models, the Junior units are designed for smaller spaces such as nurseries, bathrooms, and home offices.
